Miriam Maes has worked for multinationals 30 years, of which more than 20 years was spent managing national and international Profit & Loss accounts. Miriam has lead "business-to-business" operations for Unilever, ICI and the Marmon Group (part of the US Pritzker Family group of companies, which includes the Hyatt Hotel Group).
Miriam entered the Energy sector in 2002, first with Texas Utilities (TXU) as a member of their European Executive and subsequently as COO of EDF's non-regulated network’s and decentralised energy business (£500million turnover and 2000 employees, with £ 1.3 billion of assets under management).
Miriam has, together with Matrix Corporate Capital, developed the Matrix-Foresee Alliance that focuses on the financing and outsourcing of energy projects. Miriam is Co-Head of the Matrix-Foresee Alliance together with Steven Fawkes.
Before the 2010 election, Miriam supported the then Shadow Climate Change Minister on a variety of new energy policies and Public Sector energy issues.
From September 2010 to May 2011, she worked on a consultancy basis as a Delivery Advisor to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, with the particular remit to support the Government’s public sector low carbon programmes.
Miriam has recently been appointed to supply expert advice to DECC’s new Energy Efficiency Deployment Office.
Miriam is an experienced Non Executive Director, currently serving on the Board of ELIA, the Belgian Transmission and Distribution System Operator, listed on the Euronext Brussels Stock exchange and on the Board of Assystems, the French Engineering Company.
In the past Miriam served on the Boards of Dalkia UK (EDF/Veolia Joint Venture), Metronet (JV between Bombardier, Balfour Beatty, WA Atkins, EDF and Thames Water). She was a Chairman of the Joint- Venture between ABB, EDF, and Balfour Beatty for London Underground (“Powerlink”). Miriam also was an administrative Non Executive Director of some 30 other EDF companies and Joint Ventures.
Miriam has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Nijenrode, International Business School in the Netherlands. She is a fluent English, French, Dutch and German speaker.
